FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. WHO IS THE RIGHT CANDIDATE FOR TREATMENT AT UROSPOT?
Women: UROSPOT is a great option for women of ANY age, with a weak pelvic floor, who desire a solution for bladder leaks, overactive bladder, and improvement in their quality of life.
Men: UROSPOT is a great option for men with bladder leaks or erectile dysfunction caused by pelvic floor dysfunction. Specifically, men who have had a radical prostatectomy.
2. HOW LONG IS THE TREATMENT? HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
At UROSPOT we will tailor a treatment plan for you. A typical session takes 28 minutes, and you will need 6 sessions scheduled twice a week for three weeks.
3. DO I NEED TO REMOVE MY CLOTHES DURING MY SESSION?
No way! At UROSPOT you remain fully clothed. There is no undressing into a gown either. You wear the clothes you arrive in. How many appointments for your lady parts does that happen?
4. WILL ANYONE OR ANYTHING BE TOUCHING MY BODY?
No. You simply sit on The Kegel Throne fully clothed. By sitting on the right spot, it allows a wave of electromagnetic energy to be directed towards your pelvic floor muscles. That energy does all the work while you enjoy Netflix or read a magazine.
5. WHAT DOES TREATMENT FEEL LIKE? IS IT PAINFUL?
You will experience tingling and contraction of ALL your pelvic floor muscles during your session. Some people describe it as riding a bike. It is NOT painful, and you can resume daily activities immediately after your session.
6. ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
There is only one side effect listed with the FDA and Health Canada; more pleasure during sex. I guess you could call that a side effect, but we call it a bonus!
7. HOW FAST WILL I EXPERIENCE RESULTS?
Improvement occurs with each session in your treatment plan. Some people begin to notice improvement as early as their first few sessions. Typically, you can expect your results to continue to improve over the following weeks.
8. WHO IS NOT A CANDIDATE FOR TREATMENT?
If you are pregnant, or have had a hip replacement, or have a pacemaker, or have a copper IUD you will not be able to receive treatment at UROSPOT. If you are pregnant, we will be able to provide treatment after your pregnancy ends. During your complimentary consult we will ask you a series of questions to determine if your pelvic floor is in a state of weakness or a state of tension. Both can cause incontinence. If we suspect your pelvic floor issues are due to tension, we will not be able to provide treatment at UROPSOT but will direct you to a provider who can help you achieve relief.
9. HOW SOON AFTER PREGNANCY SHOULD I WAIT BEFORE TREATMENT AT UROSPOT?
Once you have been cleared by your physician to begin exercising again, and once your bleeding has stopped.
10. HOW LONG DO I NEED TO WAIT BETWEEN SESSIONS?
Typical treatment is twice a week for three weeks. It is important to give your pelvic floor muscles time to recover between sessions. The 11,000 kegels performed during your session is equivalent to doing 70 hours of kegels. Like any workout you do, muscle recovery time is important. We recommend 2-3 days between sessions.
11. WILL THIS HELP MY SEX LIFE?
Improved sexual function is a reported “side effect”. The 11,000 kegels performed during your sessions strengthen your pelvic floor (the muscles that are involved in sexual function) and increase blood flow to the area. As a result, many women report increased pleasure during intercourse and stronger orgasms. Many men report improved strength and duration of erection.
12. IS THE TREATMENT SAFE?
Yes! This technology is approved by both the FDA and Health Canada.
13. HOW EFFECTIVE IS THIS TREATMENT?
Clinical studies found that 95% of study participants reported a significant quality of life improvement and over 2/3 of totally eliminated or a significant reduction in the use of pads / diapers to manage their bladder leaks.
14. I WEAR A PESSARY INSIDE MY VAGINA TO HELP WITH BLADDER LEAKS? DO I NEED TO REMOVE MY PESSARY BEFORE TREATMENT?
No. You can leave your pessary in during treatment.
15. HOW LONG WILL MY RESULTS LAST?
Your results will last for many months, but like any muscle you strengthen it’s important to keep it strong. A single 28 minute maintenance appointment is recommended every 4 months to keep your results at their peak performance.
16. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR DURING MY SESSIONS?
You remain in your own clothes for the treatment. We recommend wearing comfortable, loose fitting pants so that you can easily position yourself on the chair.
17. CAN I HAVE MY TREATMENT WHILE I’M ON MY PERIOD?
We recommend you wait until after your period ends to begin treatment.
18. CAN MEN RECEIVE TREATMENT AT UROSPOT?
Absolutely. Strengthening your pelvic floor is good for everyone. The technology is approved for both women and men. Many men struggle with bladder leaks and overactive bladder just like women do. Also, men undergoing radiation or surgery to treat prostate cancer should expect to develop some problems with bladder control.
19. IS THIS COVERED BY PROVINCIAL HEALTHCARE LIKE OHIP OR AHS?
20. IS THIS COVERED BY EXTENDED HEALTH BENEFITS?
Great news! You may be able to claim part of the cost of treatment with your health benefits. During your consultation we will advise you of the qualifications and provide all necessary receipts. If you have a wellness or health care spending plan, it too can be used towards the cost of treatment.
21. CAN I CLAIM THIS ON MY TAX RETURN?
YES – At UROSPOT we provide instructions on how to claim your treatment cost as a medical expense on your income tax return.
22. I HAVE ENDOMETRIOSIS. WILL THIS HELP ME?
We have noticed that women with endometriosis have reported decreased pelvic pain, especially during the time of their menstrual cycle. While not coming in to be treated for this specifically, it is a positive side benefit being reported by endo sufferers at UROSPOT.
